Nikon Rumors has an interesting post about how the team at the Nikon Repair Center in Taiwan fixed a Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8 lens that had been dropped in the sea. To repair the salt water damage, they boiled the lens!
The main problem with the Nikkor lens was that the salt water had thrown the autofocus (AF) motor out of whack and it needed to be replaced.
