How do you fix a Nikon lens that’s been dropped in the sea? Boil it!

Nikon Rumors has an interesting post about how the team at the Nikon Repair Center in Taiwan fixed a Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8 lens that had been dropped in the sea. To repair the salt water damage, they boiled the lens!

The main problem with the Nikkor lens was that the salt water had thrown the autofocus (AF) motor out of whack and it needed to be replaced. Also, according to Nikon Rumors, the inner tube of the lens was rusted and stopped moving because of the salt water damage. To remove the rust, the repair center staff added…
